Blog Tour: Night Sky by Jolene Perry - Author Interview

Title: Night Sky
Author: Jolene Perry
Release Date: March 1st 2012 by Tribute Books

Synopsis:
Girl I’ve loved, girl I’m falling for. Now that they’re both in view, the problem is clear.

After losing Sarah, the friend he’s loved, to some other guy, Jameson meets Sky. Her Native American roots, fluid movements, and need for brutal honesty become addictive fast. This is good. Jameson needs distraction – his dad leaves for another woman, his mom’s walking around like a zombie, and Sarah’s new boyfriend can’t keep his hands off of her.

As he spends time with Sky and learns about her village, her totems, and her friends with drums - she's way more than distraction. Jameson's falling for her fast.

But Sky’s need for honesty somehow doesn’t extend to her life story – and Jameson just may need more than his new girl to keep him distracted from the disaster of his senior year.

 Jolene Perry's Bio:
Jolene grew up in Wasilla, Alaska. She graduated from Southern Utah University with a degree in political science and French, which she used to teach math to middle schoolers.
After living in Washington, Utah and Las Vegas, she now resides in Alaska with her husband, and two children. Aside from writing, Jolene sews, plays the guitar, sings when forced, and spends as much time outside as possible.
She is also the author of The Next Door Boys and the upcoming Knee Deep.

1. Where is the current place your reside and can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I live in Wasilla, Alaska. Even though I've been "home" for almost 6 years, I sometimes still feel culture shock after living in Seattle and Las Vegas.

When I'm not at my computer, I love to be outside. We're close to the mountains, where we spend a lot of time hiking. I also love to be on the water, preferably the ocean, so we go sailing when we can snag a boat from the few boat owners we know. Aside from that - my husband and I do a lot of trying to keep up with our two kids - Emma (8) and Jack (5).

2.  Have you always wanted to be an author and what or who inspired you to become a writer?
I wanted to be an author when I was in elementary, and didn't think I could do it. And part of me is sad that I didn't attempt sooner, but with the way it's sort of taken over my brainpower, it's probably best that I didn't. My inspiration is simply the stories and people in my head.

3. When did you write your first complete book?
I finished my first complete novel sometime in the beginning of 2010. Once I knew I could do it, the next went a lot faster.

4. Do you take any part in creating your book covers?
The first cover I had NO say in at all - fortunately I loved it. Tribute, who's publishing Night Sky and Knee Deep has been nothing but awesome with how insane and indecisive I can be. But yes, they've given me a say.

5. Do you have any bad habits you do when you are reading?
Ignore everything else and stay up too late. I KNOW I can finish most YA books in one sitting, so I tend to do that.

6. Where is your favorite place to read?
Anywhere I can. I have a hammock chair that's pretty awesome, but my kids like to push me when I'm in it, and I get motion sick easy, so . . .

7.  Are you currently reading any books?
I'm always reading one or two or three . . . The last couple of books I read that I loved were Lola and the Boy Next Door and Anna Dressed in Blood - so, that may answer another question in that I'll read just about anything.

 8. Who are some of your favorite authors?
John Green, Jandy Nelson, Sarah Ockler, Laurie Halse Anderson - mostly contemporary YA authors.

 9.  Which do you prefer: Stand Alone or Series when it comes to books?
Stand alone. I'm always the LAST person to read a really great series - I like to know the rest of the books are going to come out, so I usually just wait for them to actually come out before I dig in.

10. Do you have any advice for writers out there who want to become authors?
Learn that rejection is not personal - it's all about right person, right place, right time - for both agents and publishers. And KEEP WRITING!!!

11. Where can people buy your books?
The best place to go right now is the website my publisher set up for Night Sky.
http://night-sky-book.blogspot.com/
But amazon. Barnes and Noble. For sure.

12. Do you have any websites? (Twitter, Facebook, Blog, etc.)
