Alpha Instinct by Katie Reus

Title: Alpha Instinct (Moon Shifter, #1)
Author: Katie Reus
Release Date: February 7th 2012 by Signet Book
Edition: eBook

Synopsis:
Fear has a scent. So does desire…

Ana Cordona has been a strong leader for the lupine shifters who survived after all the males and most of the females in her pack were mysteriously poisoned. As tough as she is, with no Alpha male, the pack is vulnerable to the devious shifter Taggart, who wants to claim both their ranch and Ana as his own. When Connor Armstrong comes back into her life, promising protection, it’s almost enough to make Ana forget how he walked out on her before—and reluctantly accept his offer to mate.

The minute Connor sees Ana again, it reawakens a raw hunger. He must have her for his bondmate—his wolf cries out for it. But his human side knows he must proceed with caution because of their complicated past. If he is to truly have her body and soul, he must go beyond his burning desire and win back her heart. Whatever it takes, he is determined not to leave her side again.

But Taggart and his rival pack are not their only enemies. A human element in town is targeting shifters. Their plan not only threatens Ana and Connor’s future, but the lives of the entire pack…

My Thoughts:
Ana, who survived with some of the female members of her pack after the males and pregnant females where poisoned and killed, now how to try to survive with no Alpha Male. But not only that, she also has to watch out for the devious Alpha Male Taggart, who wants to claim Ana by force and take her ranch. When Conner Armstrong back up, he offers her a chance to become his mate and protect her from the coming dangers. Taggart is not the pack's only problem, humans are targeting shifters, which may threaten Conner and Ana's relationship and the lives of their pack.

I receive this book via Netgalley.com. I loved this book. It contained all the elements I look forward to in a book. The characters were amazing and so was the plot.

Ana and Conner deserve five thumbs up! I loved their relationship. I loved the fact that when they reunited, they didn't automatically just into the I love you's, even though they loved each other in the past. I could understand Ana's attitude and how she felt about the situation with their past. I was like Conner, would you tell her already. If you talking to a book you know you like it. I like how Conner was caring and protective of now just Ana but everyone in the pack.
Another thing I loved about Ana and Conner, is when they connected in the most intimate of ways, that those scenes in the book were not rushed. You could feel the connection that they have with each other as you read it and that is a major plus!

Liam and December was a great side romance you get to experience. I though it was a great idea. I really like Liam, he and Conner act so much alike and don't even realize it. And the cubs were too adorable! Vivian was an added splash of sunshine to the book. I really like her. But you didn't see to much of the boy cub. I hope he gets more moments in the next book.

Taggart, I don't like. He was an jerk. Those type of people I cannot not stand. But  his character made for a great bad guy. You just knew he was always up to know good, always plotting. I want to know more about this "Enforcer" guy also. He seems interesting........

The action was great. Not as much as I'm use to but just enough to satisfy my hunger for it. When the action happens, sometimes its so unexpected. For example, when Ana and Vivian was in the car....I was like, what? Surprised me.

The ending, shocked the mess out of me. I so did not see that one coming!!! Even the reactions of the pack shocked me. Oh, and there was some unfortunate evens in this book that I did not like. Like some deaths and I will not name names, but just know Katie Reus that I am not happy with one of those.

But overall, the book was amazing. A page turner with great romance that will make you blush and some action that will have you on edge. For all you paranormal romance lovers, you should check out this book!

Hide & Seek by Aimee Laine

Title: Hide & Seek (Games of Zeus, #1)
Author: Aimee Laine
Release Date: March 1st 2012 by J. Taylor Publishing
Edition: eBook

Synopsis:
Lie, cheat or steal, no one can catch Tripp Fox. Except one woman.

Lexi Shepherd’s knack for finding whatever is asked of her isn’t sheer luck. It’s a gift from the Greek god Zeus.

That Lexi doesn’t use her ability to search for “Mr. Right” comes from one of many personal rules she has set for herself. Number one is not to let fate dictate her future.

Falling in love with Tripp breaks all the others.

Despite her principles, Lexi’s unable to stay away from the bad boy, and she finds herself toeing the grey line of the law for him.

Zeus, though, didn’t give Lexi and Tripp their talents to make their relationship a simple, easy alliance. He designed it to be exactly the opposite. Impossible. Always.

With their separation, Lexi expects Tripp to forfeit love in favor of destiny. He, on the other hand, intends to beat Zeus at his own game. With a plan in place, Tripp challenges Lexi to take the one action no one else can.

Find him.

The question isn’t can she ... but will she?

My Thoughts:
Tripp Fox goes against all things Lexi Shepard does not agree with. With their gifts from the Greek God Zeus, Lexi has the ability to find things, and Tripp cannot be caught, except by one woman. I received this book from J. Taylor Publishing to review because I am part of their reviewers program. So on to the review!

I really enjoyed this book. I loved it so much! It was exciting, the characters were amazing, it kept you guessing, and it was so different than the books I am use to reading.

Lets start with the character, Lexi and Tripp. Those to are what made the story! Tripp was wonderful. He was kind of everything I love in a male counterpart. Bad boy, but loving; Secretive, but willing; and Cunning, but cute. And Tripp was so adventurous. He brought the action to the book, but so did Lexi. I just adored his character! Lexi, was kind of self-conscience to me at first, the goody girl who didn't want to do anything wrong or take a chance. But I really like her character. She wanted to try new things and go outside her comfort zone, but would always second guess herself. Lexi and Tripp's relationship was absolutely, how should I say this, heated. Between the arguing, the sex, and their over all chemistry, what's not to love?!

Emma and Ian always had me laughing. Emma knew her twin and knew exactly what she would/say before she said it, which I loved! I loved when Emma called Lexi out on when she knew Lexi was thinking negatively about an issue. It was so entertaining. Ian was just a trip. But I loved he and Tripp's brotherly relationship.
Marge and Gorge confused the mess out of me in the beginning, but I now understand their whole part in the story. They were adorable!

The action in this book was written out so well. Since I am an action kind of girl, that is one of the things that keeps me flipping the pages and I was not disappointed with this book! I stay up all night to read this book and it is now 5:10 in the AM! I pulled an all nighter but I am so glad I did.

The ending was so sweet and I enjoyed every minute reading it! I would say the only problem I really had with this book was Lexi's inability to trust Tripp. As the reader, I see what he's capable of and how he's feeling. Lol It just frustrated me to know end, because I loved Tripp and trusted him so why is she having the trust issues! Lol Silly me :)

But overall, the book was amazing! I enjoyed it. It is an adult book to all my readers out their. But if you love a good romance, action, and a tad of mystery, I think you'll enjoy this book!

Bloodrose by Andrea Cremer

Title: Bloodrose (Nightshade, #3)
Author: Andrea Cremer
Release Date:  January 3rd 2012 by Philomel
Edition: eBook

Synopsis:
Calla has always welcomed war. But now that the final battle is upon her, there's more at stake than fighting. There's saving Ren, even if it incurs Shay's wrath. There's keeping Ansel safe, even if he's been branded a traitor. There's proving herself as the pack's alpha, facing unnamable horrors, and ridding the world of the Keepers' magic once and for all. And then there's deciding what to do when the war ends. If Calla makes it out alive, that is. In this remarkable final installment of the Nightshade trilogy, international bestselling author Andrea Cremer crafts a dynamic novel with twists and turns that will keep you breathless until its final pages.

My Thoughts:
Bloodrose is the final installment of the Nightshade series by Andrea Cremer. Calla has always welcomed war, but now that the final battle is upon them, she struggling with the decision of saving Ren and enduring Shay's wrath because of it. There's keeping Ansel safe, proving herself as pack alpha, facing horrors, and ridding the world of the keepers magic. And finally, there's deciding what to do about what to do after the war ends, if Calla makes it out alive.

This book was enjoyable. The characters are all still and same and lovable, even though some may have some major baggage. I like the plot/storyline. This book was definitely a page turner!

Calla still struggles with major decisions in this book like always, being young and having to make so many decisions. Ren and Shay are the same as always, dominant at its best. The boys will be boys. I can't really give to much away with what happens between these three without there being MAJOR spoilers. You guys will have to read the book to find out!

The side characters make me laugh. And I also loved the relationships within the side characters. Ethan and Sabine... Didn't really see that coming! Okay, there may be some MINOR spoilers in this review but I just can't help it! Conner and Adne, I love these to so much! Conner is probably my favorite character and I really like the fact that you get a glimpse of some of his inner turmoil in this book and not just his silly side. I feel bad for Ansel. He is just to sweet to be struggling with everything he has to deal with. It makes me sad.

One thing that I really, really didn't like about this book was Calla. Sorry but she got on my last DAMN nerves. Excuse the language, but I wanted to rip my hair out at times. But with her indecisiveness and the back and forth.... Pissed me off to the extreme! You could tell who she wanted from the very beginning. There wasn't even a guess in my eyes, you could tell by her actions. All the back and forth was a way of space in the book honestly. But I'm not saying that in a bad way. I just think half of it could of been eliminated, but that's just my opinion on that. These issues are what brought this book from a 5 Star to 4 Star, I hate to say. But the ENDING is made up for it it in a way!

The ending! I shed tears when so and so __________! Ugh. I am so hurt. I don't even want to think about it. Andrea Cremer, how could you do this to me. But anyways, I like how things came together when a certain some and his team came to the rescue! I was so excited about that. But the very, very ending of the book confused the mess out of me at first. I didn't know what was going on. Wolves? Humans? That's it? So now this has me wondering, is there going to be a spin off? You guys seriously need to read this book to know what I'm talking about!

Overall the book was enjoyable. I'm sad to see this series end. If you loved the second to in this series, then I suggest you hurry and pick up this finally installment! And if you haven't read this series at all, stop what you doing and go pick up the first book, Nightshade! Wonderful!

Hunting Season by Shelly Laurenston

Title: Hunting Season (The Gathering, #1)
Author: Shelly Laurenston
Release Date: October 2nd 2009 by Samhain Publishing, Ltd.
Edition: eBook

Synopsis:

Neecy Lawrence, winged warrior for a Viking goddess and second-in-command of the fierce Crows, doesn’t know what to do with a nice guy. As it is, making up for a past she’d sooner forget leaves her barely polite most days. But Raven leader and loyal Odin warrior, Will Yager, isn’t just nice. He’s gorgeous, hot, and a distraction she simply can’t afford.
Yager has wanted Neecy in his life—and in his bed—for a long time. Not just for a night, but forever. And, like any self-respecting Viking, he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants. So what if she’s the most difficult, complex, never-gives-him-a-break woman he’s ever known? She’s more than worth the effort. In fact, she’s worth everything.
And if it turns out that twenty-four hours of non-stop, any-way-she-wants-it sex doesn’t work with Neecy? Then it looks like he’ll just have to get a little more creative…
Warning: Contains a strong, intelligent, ass-kicking heroine; an alpha hero with the occasional geeky tendency; gritty, realistic violence; and sex so hot that, well, let’s just say there’s not enough ice water in the world…

My Thoughts:
Neecy Lawrence is a winged warrior for a Viking Goddess and the second in command of the Crow. While making up for her past that she hasn't forgotten, she is rarely in a nice mood. And when it comes to guys, Neecy doesn't know what to do with a nice guy. But Raven leader and loyal Odin warrior, Will Yager, isn't just nice. Yager has wanted Neecy for a long time, and being the Viking that he is, he will stop at nothing to get her. Not just for the moment but forever. But Yager knows in order to keep Neecy, he's going to have to be creative, not matter how difficult she may be.

I loved this book! Out of all the Shelly Laurenston's books I've read, I have loved every single one of them. This book was a fun, light read. I enjoyed it so much much. I loved the plot and the characters, even all the side characters.

Neecy and Yager, of course, were my favorite. Those two together had me laughing every single time. I really loved that fact, that this book had me laughing throughout it the entire time I was reading it. Especially with Neecy and her attitude towards Yager. I also loved there chemistry with each other. They could burn a house down with all that chemistry! Yager was a sweetheart, but I loved that dominant attitude. I loved how the roles were kind of reversed. Neecy was the one with the internal issues towards the relationship with her past, instead of Yager. It's usually the guys with the problems. So I liked that fact.

The side characters: Mike, Arri, Janelle and Didi had me laughing tears. Arri, when she the Crows finally accepted and she became comfortable around everyone, had me laughing. Especially at that last party!

The action was great. Neecy is a bad ass character which I really like. All the crows were. Oh, and speaking of crows, I have never read a book about crows! I was kind of freaked out about that in the beginning! Lol
And the ending tripped me out. I was sitting there trying to turn to the next page but I realized it was the end! Typical Neecy. I want the sequel to be released badly! I want to know what Yager does.

Overall the book was a quick read. It was light and very entertaining. Definitely for people 18 and older. If you want a good laugh, I seriously recommend this book to you!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a light and a quick read for me. I like how the beginning part of the story drew me in. Not the very beginning, but when Essallie goes to the party, that drew me in! Great action from the very beginning. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters.

My favorite character of the story is Kayden, of course! He was different. In the beginning he kind of creep me out. I thought he was weird, especially with what happened at the party. Disturbing! But as the book progressed, I really enjoyed his character. Essallie, I like her at times. Not so much in the beginning. She got on my nerves a tad bit, but not to the extreme. But that changed as I continued to read the story. I liked her a lot by the end of the story. And the little hint of a possible connection between Kayden and Essallie... Loved it!

The action in this book was great. I love action, especially with that final scene in the book when everything comes to light... I thought it was written out amazing and I enjoyed it so much!

But one thing I didn't like about this book was when the book switches and ends a scene, then go into the next one. Sometimes I felt like there could have been more to certain scenes in the book and that it skipped to the next scene to quickly. But that is one of the only flaws I really have about the book. I can't wait to see what happens in the sequel because that ending left me with too many unanswered questions!

Overall, it was a fun read. It was very fast paced, quick read. If you like YA books about a little bit of magic, angels, and demons, I think you should give this book I try! I really enjoyed it!

Top Ten Tuesday is Hosted by: The Broke and The Bookish
-Well since and read YA and Paranormal Romance (adult), I am going to recommend 5 YA books and 5 paranormal adult books.....All will be series because that is what I mostly read.

1. The Maze Runner trilogy by James Dashner
-I absolutely loved this trilogy! Each book topped the last. Some people don't like this book because in this book they make up there own language but halfway through the book you are a pro on the language, so just stick it out! I promise you you will love each book!
2. The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa
-This was the first fairy series that I have ever read and I love this series. The second book was kind of annoying at times but don't give up because the last two book are amazing!!!!
3. The Raised By Wolves series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
-This is one of the series that makes me love werewolves so much! I am wolf girl not a vamp girl. So yeah, I  recommend this series!
4. The Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead
-Words can't even explain how much I love this series! So sad to see it end but I loved Bloodlines so I'm still excited :)
5. The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare
-I don't think I even need to explain why I love this series.....
6. The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward
-This is my all time favorite series. I love these Vampire boys so freakin' much! Zsadist and Vishous! My loves.. I think I'm bout to faint! Lol I am going to reread and review these books!
7. Women of the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong
-Clay and Elena are my favorite stories. Love this series even though I've only read Clay and Elena's stories. Maybe I'll go back and read all the others ones too.
8. The Riley Jenson/Dark Angels series by Keri Arthur

Musing Monday (1/16)

 Hosted by: Should Be Reading
What devices --if any-- do you read books on? Do you find it enjoyable, or still somewhat bothersome? Or: If you only read the print books, why haven't you chosen to read on any devices?

-I read on my Kindle Tough 3g, which I got for Christmas and have been loving it! Before I got my kindle I would read on my laptop and that got annoying at times because the light would be to bright and gives you headaches, especially if you are reading for long periods of time.
I love my kindle. I feel at times it can be more convenient, especially when it comes to travel, because carrying around those hardback books can weigh you down. But unlike the laptop, the lighting doesn't bother me, because it doesn't have light. (don't know the official term for this) At night I read with my little book light and its not too bright or hurts the eye.
-But I still buy my print books just as much as I buy my eBooks. My print books, still get more love! But to be honest I love them both, neither have been replaced or anything like that. If I really want to read a book and I'm going to be doing a lot of running around for the week, I'll buy it on my kindle. Or If a book is being released soon and I can't wait to read it, I'll pre-order it on my kindle, so when I get up its there. No going to the bookstore for one thing and ending up leaving with 10. Lol

But all in all. I love them both. Print books more than eBooks. But my Kindle get a lot of love too and I just got it.

Legend by Marie Lu

Title: Legend (Legend, #1)
Author: Marie Lu
Released Date: November 29th 2011 by Putnam Juvenile
Edition: Paperback arc (won in contest)

Synopsis:
What was once the western United States is now home to the Republic, a nation perpetually at war with its neighbors. Born into an elite family in one of the Republic's wealthiest districts, fifteen-year-old June is a prodigy being groomed for success in the Republic's highest military circles. Born into the slums, fifteen-year-old Day is the country's most wanted criminal. But his motives may not be as malicious as they seem.

From very different worlds, June and Day have no reason to cross paths - until the day June's brother, Metias, is murdered and Day becomes the prime suspect. Caught in the ultimate game of cat and mouse, Day is in a race for his family's survival, while June seeks to avenge Metias' death. But in a shocking turn of events, the two uncover the truth of what has really brought them together, and the sinister lengths their country will go to keep its secrets.

My Thoughts:
Born into one of the Republic's wealthiest district, June is being trained to be in the Republic's highest ranking military circle. Born in the Slums, Day is one of the most wanted criminals the Republic is looking for. From two different worlds, June and Day were to never have crossed paths, but June's brother is killed, the logical suspect they have is Day. While Day is on a mission to save his family from the plague, June is seeking revenge. But what they don't expect is to find out the truth of why they were brought together and why the government is trying so hard to keep its secrets.

I enjoyed this book so, so much! I won this arc book in a contest by @AuthorsRock on twitter and am so glad I did! When I first started reading it, I was kind of skeptical thinking was this my kind of book. But as I continued reading it, I got more into the story and fell in love with the characters right from the beginning. I finished this book in less than a day and stayed up all night to finish it!

I loved the storyline/plot. I loved the way it was written. At first I was kind of confused because the chapters aren't numbered, They just have the person's name of who's point of view your reading from and the fonts were different. But the confusion was easily dismissed after the first few chapters.

Day is probably my favorite character. He caring but he also has to be hard when he is looking so save his family. The republic looks at him as a criminal but don't understand the reasons why he does what he does. I fell for Day within the first couple of chapters. You got to see deeper into his pass as the book progressed and find yourself sympathizing with him.

June, she kind of made me mad at first. As I'm reading the story, I'm yelling at the book to her, "You don't know what he's going through emotionally, don't think that way!" But you know you are enjoying a book if your talking to it! But I liked her as the book progress. What she was dealing with, with her brother Metias's murder and all and with all the things she started uncovering.

This book had me in so much suspense. Me wanting to know what would happen next and who would do what or can they trust this person. Don't like Thomas. He was weird to me from the very beginning and I definitely didn't like the commander. But what I did love was the little glimpses of chemistry Day and June had. So cute!

Overall this book was amazing! Five stars! It was action-packed and kept you anxious. So good! I recommend for anyone who just likes YA books in general and also those who like dystopians!

Author Interview:

1. Where is the current place you reside and can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I live in on the gulf coast and even though the summers are humid (translation: so gross outside I don’t leave my wonderfully air conditioned house except to go to the beach), I’ve come to love it here. I’m originally from Florida so it’s a nice change of pace having slightly colder winters. Hmm, about me? I’m married, just had my first child six months ago, I’m addicted to chocolate, hate exercising but do it anyway (sometimes) and love coffee!
2. Have you always wanted to be an author and what or who inspired you to become a writer?
No, I’m not one of those writers who always knew what they wanted. I floundered around in college, switching majors a lot and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. Even after I got my degree I still hadn’t figured it out. Then I read Everyone Worth Knowing by Lauren Weisberger. I don’t think it’s as well-known as her blockbuster hit The Devil Wears Prada (another book I love), but I really connected with Bette, the main character. At the end of the book she realized what she wanted to do with her life and like a freaking light bulb going off, I realized what I wanted too.
3. How old where you when you wrote your first book?
This is bad but I can’t remember the exact year I started writing and it wasn’t even that long ago *g*. I think I was 25.
 4. Do you take part in designing the covers of your books?
I usually fill out a form answering questions for the art department (what color hair the heroine has, what the tone of the book is etc.) but other than that, it’s completely up to the art department. The only exception to that is for the books I’ve self-published. I have complete control over the final product. Well, to an extent. It’s not like I’m actually in charge of designing, but if I don’t like something I have the option to go back until I’m satisfied with the final product.
 5. Do you have any bad habits that you do when reading a book?
If I’m nervous about the HEA (which I know is stupid to worry about if I’m reading romance), I’ll totally read ahead to see the ending then go back and finish.
6. Are you currently reading any books?
Yes, I try to read at least one book a week. After a long day I like to wind down by reading, even if only for a few minutes. Lord of the Abyss by Nalini Singh is next up on my Kindle.
7. Who are some of your favorite authors?
Karen Marie Moning, Nalini Singh, Kaylea Cross, Lisa Marie Rice and Laura Wright.
8. Do you have any advice for those who want to become writers?
Read a lot and figure out what genre makes you the happiest. Trying to force yourself to write to trends won’t work. If you hate paranormal, chances are you’re not going to like writing it. Also, remember that the internet is forever. Think about what you say on line. I think this is good advice for anyone.
9. Hardback, paperback, or eBook?
I have a ton of bookshelves covered in paperbacks, but right now I almost exclusively read everything on my Kindle.
10. Where is your favorite place to read a book?
I love reading a book while getting a pedicure.
11. Romance or Paranormal Romance?
Both! I love most subgenres of romance J
12. Where can people find your books?
All of them are available digitally, my Carina books are also available from Audible (audio, one of my fave ways to ‘read’!), and Alpha Instinct is so far the only one available in mass market format (print). They’re all available at the major retailers whether in print or ebook format so Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Sony, etc.
13. Do you have any website? (twitter, facebook, blog, etc.)
-Thank you so much for having me here today, Janina!
