The Kill Order by James Dashner

The Kill Order
(Maze Runner Prequel)
by James Dashner
Released |August 14th 2012 by Delacorte Books for Young Readers|
Edition |E-ARC|
Source |Netgalley|
The prequel to the New York Times bestselling Maze Runner series.
Before WICKED was formed, before the Glade was built, before Thomas entered the Maze, sun flares hit the earth and mankind fell to disease.
Mark and Trina were there when it happened, and they survived. But surviving the sun flares was easy compared to what came next. Now a disease of rage and lunacy races across the eastern United States, and there’s something suspicious about its origin. Worse yet, it’s mutating, and all evidence suggests that it will bring humanity to its knees.
Mark and Trina are convinced there’s a way to save those left living from descending into madness. And they’re determined to find it—if they can stay alive. Because in this new, devastated world, every life has a price. And to some, you’re worth more dead than alive.

I don't think I've ever read a full blown prequel before, but everyone knows that I loved The Maze Runner Trilogy by James Dashner. I have to be honest, I didn't even know there was going to be a prequel to the The Maze Runner trilogy. So when I seen Kill Order on Netgalley, I did a little happy dance :) I didn't know how I would feel about it, but...Here's what I thought.

Gabriel Merrick plays with fire. Literally.

Sometimes he can even control it. And sometimes he can’t. Like the fire that killed his parents.

Gabriel has always had his brothers to rely on, especially his twin, Nick. But when an arsonist starts wreaking havoc on their town, all the signs point to Gabriel. Only he’s not doing it.

More than Gabriel’s pride is at stake -- this could cost him his family, maybe his life. And no one seems to hear him. Except a shy sophomore named Layne, a brainiac who dresses in turtlenecks and jeans and keeps him totally off balance. Layne understands family problems, and she understands secrets. She has a few of her own.

Gabriel can’t let her guess about his brothers, about his abilities, about the danger that’s right at his heels. But there are some risks he can’t help taking.

The fuse is lit…

Let me just say one thing. I did NOT think I would fall in love with Gabriel Merrick as much as I did! I think he just might be a fave :) I love all the Merrick brothers, but in this book, Gabriel stood out from the others. He showed emotions and his actions were completely different than what I thought of him! How could this book be just as good or even better than Storm? I can't even decide which one I liked better :D But Spark gave Storm a run for its money!

Shadows
(Lux, 0.5)
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Released |February 21st 2012 by Entangled Publishing|
Edition |Ebook, 179 pages|
The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane.
Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.
Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in.
Captivated. Lured. Loved.
Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence...and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

OMG OMG OMG! A-freaking-MAZING :D, but oh so sad. This was the best, oh the best, I can't even write... *Comes back 5 minutes later after getting her emotions together*

Top Ten Most Vivid Worlds/Settings In Books

I haven't done a top ten in a while :)
This week's topic is: Top Ten Most Vivid Worlds/Settings In Books
Hosted by: the broke and bookish
A book where you can picture the world/setting as your reading, makes the experience that much better :) These are the books that stuck out to me!

1. The Iron Fey world :) by Julie Kagawa
-I could picture this world the most and it was the first book off the top of the head :)
2. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
-Of freaking Course :D!
3. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
-The Arenas was something that was the most vivid to me in this trilogy and I loved.
4. Divergent by Veronica Roth
-I loved the way this world was set up, the factions and all that good stuff!
5. Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan
-I don't know why, but when I read these books I could imagine every scene. And when I seen the movie I was like, 'dude, that's exactly how I imagined it.
6. Gone by Michael Grant
-I could just imagine and awesome series btw :)
7. Dearly Departed by Lia Habel
-In this book, I could see the zombies and the disease as if it were happening right in front of me.
8. Matched by Ally Condie
-The whole thing with the government and all. If you've read this book you know what I'm talking about.
9. The Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R. Ward
-I know this is set in NY, but I can always picture everything the way it is. From the compound to the clubs to everything. Maybe it's because I love this series so much?!
10. Wither by Lauren DeStefano
-I can imagine the world those girls lived in and how awful it was for them. Maybe that's why that who thought made me sad about the way they were treated and what they went through because I can imagine it so w

Florence by Ciye Cho

Florence
by Ciye Cho
Released |July 1st 2012|
Edition |E-Book, 336 pages|
Source |For Review - From Author|
Seventeen-year-old Florence Waverley is out of her depth. Literally. Kidnapped and taken below the waves to the mer world of Niemela, she is the ultimate gift for merman Prince Kiren: a human familiar tied to his side. But nothing is what it seems amid the beauty and danger of a dark ocean.
Every Niemelan has a role to play, from the mermaids who weave towers out of kelp to the warriors who fight sea monsters. But in trying to survive, Florence will end up in the middle of a war between the mer and the Darkness. A conflict that will push her between two brothers: Kiren, the charmer inexplicably drawn to both her and the monsters; and Rolan, the loner who has been pushing her away since the day they met. But in order to take a stand--and find out where she belongs--Florence will have to risk it all: her life, her heart... and her very soul.

I would like to thank Ciye Cho for a review copy of this book :) All thoughts are my honest opinion :) And I must say that I am really starting to get into the mermaid/mermen genre. It's very interesting and different than your typical vampire, werewolf, witchy stories.

What Kills Me by Wynne Channing

What Kills Me
by Wynne Channing
Released |June 6th 2012 by Jet & Jack Press|
Edition |Ebook, 209 pages|
Source |For Review-Provided by Author|
An ancient prophecy warns of a girl destined to cause the extinction of the vampire race.
So when 17-year-old Axelia falls into a sacred well filled with blood and emerges a vampire, the immortal empire believes she is this legendary destroyer. Hunted by soldiers and mercenaries, Axelia and her reluctant ally, the vampire bladesmith Lucas, must battle to survive.
How will she convince the empire that she is just an innocent teenager-turned bloodsucker and not a creature of destruction? And if she cannot, can a vampire who is afraid of bugs summon the courage to fight a nation of immortals?

This fast paced, action packed novel blew me away. It took a different take on vampirism (pretty sure that's not a word)and that's what makes it so unique. Seeing an author come up with their own unique take on things is what makes a book amazing :)

Author Interview: J. Meyers

Twins Sera and Luke Raine have a well-kept secret—she heals with a touch of her hand, he sees the future. All their lives they’ve helped those in need on the sly. They’ve always thought of their abilities as being a gift.
Then Luke has a vision that Sera is killed. That gift they’ve always cherished begins to feel an awful lot like a curse. Because the thing about Luke’s ability? He’s always right. And he can’t do anything about it.

My 4.5 star review: Here

Interview Questions
1. Where are you from and can you tell us a little but about yourself?
I'm originally from Vermont, but I currently live in central New York. I love to laugh and try not to take life too seriously. And I have always believed that doing something you love is much better than being rich. Richness in life is measured in much more important and meaningful things than money.

Edition |Hardback, 367 pages|

Rules Are Different Outside The Society
Chasing down an uncertain future, Cassia makes her way to the Outer Provinces in pursuit of Ky--taken by the Society to his sure death--only to find that he has escaped into the majestic, but treacherous, canyons. On this wild frontier are glimmers of a different life and the enthralling promise of a rebellion. But even as Cassia sacrifices every thing to reunite with Ky, ingenious surprises from Xander may change the game once again.Narrated from both Cassia's and Ky's point of view, this hotly anticipated sequel to Matched will take them both to the edge of Society, where nothing is as expected and crosses and double crosses make their path more twisted than ever.

The thing about this series is that it has a great story within, but the books are just slow paced. Slow paced to the point of where you tend to get bored. But if you overlook the slowness, the story itself is amazing!

Fever

Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.
Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.
The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary.
In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever.

This sequel was absolutely amazing :) At first I didn't know how I would feel about it, but low and behold I think it might have just topped Wither!

With the help of Gabriel, a servant to whom she is dangerously attracted, Rhine is desperate to learn the truth and protect those closest to her. But, as her sister wife Cecily keeps insisting, her role may be much bigger than that.In the first two books of the Chemical Garden trilogy, Wither and Fever, Rhine struggles to escape the mansion and then to navigate the brutal world outside. Now in Sever, the third and final book, Rhine uncovers some shattering truths about the past that her parents never had the chance to tell her and the alarming implications regarding her own genes. The Goddess Legacy by Aimee Carter

The Goddess Legacy
(The Goddess Test, #2.5)
by Aimee Carter
Released |July 31st 2012 by Harlequin Teen|
Edition |E-ARC|
Source |Netgalley|
For millennia we've caught only glimpses of the lives and loves of the gods and goddesses on Olympus. Now Aime e Carter pulls back the curtain on how they became the powerful, petty, loving and dangerous immortals that Kate Winters knows.
Calliope/Hera represented constancy and yet had a husband who never matched her faithfulness....Ava/Aphrodite was the goddess of love and yet commitment was a totally different deal....Persephone was urged to marry one man, yet longed for another....James/Hermes loved to make trouble for others-but never knew true loss before....Henry/Hades's solitary existence had grown too wearisome to continue. But meeting Kate Winters gave him a new hope....Five original novellas of love, loss and longing and the will to survive throughout the ages.

I loved this collection of short stories that Aimee Carter has put together. If you have read this series, this is a must read because it explains so much and it starts from the beginning! I really liked it. Ratings, 4.5 stars!

I am starting to wish this series hurry and end. Not in a bad way, but the series is starting to drag out. I mean seriously, this is book #21! 3.5 stars to Kiss The Dead. The action was still there though AND the steamy romances :D

He’s learned to annihilate zombies and raise the dead, divination and clairvoyance, so why is learning to drive such a difficulty? But that isn’t the primary skill he has to master. Survival is.
And in order to survive, his next lesson makes all the others pale in comparison. He is on the brink of becoming either the greatest hero mankind has ever known.
Or he’ll be the one who ends the world. With enemies new and old gathering forces, he will have to call on every part of himself to fight or he’ll lose everyone he cares about.
Even himself.

LOVED :) This series is so amazing! I swear I need to check out the adult series that started it all. This is the spin off so....But it's awesome!
