Two jumped off the pier that night...but only one came back aliveThis was, unfortunately, a book that I had to DNF. I was not able to connect to the story or the characters in any way and it was very forgettable. The story line is what made me want to pick up the book and had me intrigued because I love a good mystery, but I just couldn't get into this one. The beginning was okay, but as the book continued I felt as if the story was all over the place and becoming repetitive. I was also confused at times which made things worse for me because I felt that some things were moving too quickly and not being explained good enough and the characters just fell flat for me and I was not able to connect. I wanted to like this book and push through it, but once I sat it down I never found the interest to pick it back up.
Bryn did everything with her best friend Erica. So when someone dared Erica to jump off the pier one night at Harding Beach, Bryn was right by her side. But when Bryn made it back to the surface, Erica was nowhere to be found. Bryn tries to make a fresh start by burying her memories of that awful night. But when a Twitter post from "EricaNShaw" pops up on her feed and a chilling voice mail appears on her phone, she realizes that someone isn't ready to let go of the past..
DNF
I hate repetitive stories. Those make me DNF or give 1-2 stars often. Sorry it was one of those and sincerly, the characters look so boring! Will try to avoid it (which won't be hard since I don't like the cover lol) Nice honest review though! :)

Thanks! It was hard because it felt like I was reading the same thing over again but I was in a new chapter.
DeleteYeah i can understand why you had to DNF this book. It doesn't seem all that original and i can't see myself enjoying it either....hopefully your next read it better!
ReplyDeleteThank you! At the time my next read wasn't better though. I had to back to back DNFs.
Deletesorry you couldn't connect with this one!
ReplyDeleteThanks. I tried to keep going but I just couldn't
DeleteOh no! It's sad seeing that the story wasn't original, and I'm definitely not going to pick this one up. I read the plotline and I thought it would deliver but from your review I'm not adding this to be TBR pile.
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading

From the plot I thought it would deliver as well and it's what made me want to pick up the book.
DeleteOh, no! You rarely DNF stuff, Janina. I'm so sorry to hear that you had to put this one down. Considering the fact that it's quick-paced, but no explanations? Ehh. I don't blame you. So sorry this wasn't for you :(
ReplyDeleteThanks Siiri! It was just one of those reads.
DeleteI haven't heard of this one before, but forgettable is not an adjective I like added to any book. So sorry that you couldn't connect with this one. Hope your next read is much better, Janina :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tanja! I hate giving negative reviews on my review books but sometimes I have to.
DeleteSorry this one wasn't as good as you'd hoped. It does sound very promising from the blurb, but it is hard to read a book when we don't connect to the characters or the plot. Thanks for sharing!

I've actually heard of this one and saw a couple of reviews and I definitely don't think it's for me. It sounds like it's confusing and it would just bother me.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you weren't able to connect and enjoy it more :(
