Nowhere is safe. Not even home…
Nick Merrick is stretched to the breaking point.
Keep his grades sky-high or he’ll never escape his hometown.
Keep his brother’s business going or the Merricks will be out on the street.
Keep the secret of where he’s going in the evenings from his own twin—-or he’ll lose his family.
Keep his mind off the hot, self-assured dancer who’s supposed to be his “girlfriend’s” partner.
Of course there’s also the homicidal freak Quinn has taken to hanging around, and the Elemental Guide counting the hours until he can try again to kill the Merrick brothers.
There’s a storm coming. From all sides. And then some.
Nick Merrick, can you keep it together?
I seriously adore this series! Somehow, the author makes me come to like and appreciate each of the characters. Nick was probably one of my least favorite characters, along with Hunter, when I started this series, but by the time I finished Spirit I started to understand Hunter and the same goes for Nick with Secret. I now feel like I understand his character better than I did before. This book was really fast paced and I liked all the different elements going on within the story. I was really surprised by how much information I got out of this story. I believed the author did a pretty great job with Nick and Adam's relationship and also with the family life of Quinn's. The story was fast paced for me and a quick read (I haven't had one of those in a while)! I love this series for that!

Nick has grown on me a lot since I first started the series. I didn't really care for a him all that much, but I was really happy when I saw that he was going to get his own FULL story because I've been just a tad bit curious about him as well even though I had mixed feelings about him. I was rooting for him and Adam because I really like the relationship that they had. I felt like they were good for each other even though they both had their own issues to deal with. At first, I didn't get why Nick wouldn't just tell his brothers. It was so frustrating! I was all like "tell them already!" Yes, they all have their own personalities, but they've always had each others back, so it took me awhile to get why he was so stand offish about it. I really liked Adam and to read about what he went through was really tough and made me just want to hug him through the book. Quinn too, because I felt like that girl just needed a hug from someone. I felt so bad for her and what she was going through with her family life because I could relate to some of the things that happened with her character. But, oh how that little surprise relationship with Tyler got sprung on me. What?! I was not expecting that at all! But am I the only one that was rooting for them secretly though? :)

Overall, I thought this was pretty awesome read and I really did enjoy it. At times, Nick started irritating me, but not much to take away from the story. The romance was great on all counts! And it was fast paced :) I can't wait to read the next installment! I'm always excited to read these books. I'm really curious to get into Michael's head. I received a copy for review through Netgalley. All thoughts are my honest opinion of the story!

  1. I know exactly what you mean about Nick's reluctance to open up being irritating at times. He was a tiny bit self-centered, but I couldn't help feeling his pain anyway. I adored this book. It was a definite step up for the author and the series.
Great review and happy new year!

    1. I did feel for him too. The struggle he was going through was realistic, so I could completely understand some of his thoughts.

  2. I'm so happy that this series it still good!! I don't know what happened to the cover though... this one is so ugly and I don't see the need for a girl to be there. Anyhow, great review!

    1. I have to agree that I don't like this new cover all that much either. I liked the one with just the guys way better!

  3. So, so happy this one was good. I am not Nick's fan either but I am open to loving him. I was nervous because I didn't really like Hunter's story.

    1. I wasn't a fan of Hunter either. He annoyed me to pieces but by the end of the book I understand him. I don't know if I liked him after the book, but I understood his character more.

  5. I'm still weeping over my books who are probably lost somewhere. I won the first three books in this series but they never arrived. Anyhow I'll find a way to get to read these as this series sounds fantastic. I'm so glad that this one didn't disappoint. Great review, Janina :)
