Tory Brennan, niece of acclaimed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan (of the Bones novels and hit TV show), is the leader of a ragtag band of teenage "sci-philes" who live on a secluded island off the coast of South Carolina. When the group rescues a dog caged for medical testing on a nearby island, they are exposed to an experimental strain of canine parvovirus that changes their lives forever.
As the friends discover their heightened senses and animal-quick reflexes, they must combine their scientific curiosity with their newfound physical gifts to solve a cold-case murder that has suddenly become very hot if they can stay alive long enough to catch the killer's scent.
Fortunately, they are now more than friends. They're a pack. They are Virals.
This was a DNF for me. I got this as an audio book from the library because I have been really curious about the book for quite some time. I couldn't get into the story though and I wasn't connecting with the characters. I felt as though the main character was kind of childish. I mean, she's only suppose to be fourteen, but she's suppose to be really smart but tended make really bad decisions and also kind of stupid one if she's suppose to be smart (if I'm being honest). I only listened to about 25% of the book before my library copy expired and I am DNF'ing this because I really don't have any interest in checking it back out. The story was kind of slow paced in the beginning and I wasn't really into the science part of the book when thing were being discussed and described. I also didn't really connect with any of the other kids that were the main character's group of friends. This wasn't really the book for me.

  2. Sorry you didn't like this! I've been curious about this one because I like the show Bones, but I think I'd be better off reading the adult books if anything.

  4. Sounds frustrating, she's young and definitely shows it! I've seen this book around but haven't heard much, so thanks for sharing.
