Curses and cons.
Magic and the mob.

In Cassel Sharpe's world, they go together. Cassel always thought he was an ordinary guy, until he realized his memories were being manipulated by his brothers. Now he knows the truth — he’s the most powerful curse worker around. A touch of his hand can transform anything — or anyone — into something else.
That was how Lila, the girl he loved, became a white cat. Cassel was tricked into thinking he killed her, when actually he tried to save her. Now that she’s human again, he should be overjoyed. Trouble is, Lila’s been cursed to love him, a little gift from his emotion-worker mom. And if Lila’s love is as phony as Cassel’s made-up memories, then he can’t believe anything she says or does.
When Cassel’s oldest brother is murdered, the Feds recruit Cassel to help make sense of the only clue — crime-scene images of a woman in red gloves. But the mob is after Cassel too — they know how valuable he could be to them. Cassel is going to have to stay one step ahead of both sides just to survive. But where can he turn when he can’t trust anyone — least of all, himself?
Love is a curse and the con is the only answer in a game too dangerous to lose
I decided to give the audio book for book 2 a try even though I had a few problems with the audio for book one. But I'm glad that I didn't have any problems with this one. I became use to the male narrator and started to really enjoy his reading style. I wasn't put off by it in this book. But anyways, I really enjoyed the sequel to White Cat. It was a fun mysterious adventure and really left you wanting to find out what happens next. In this book, Cassel is searching for his brother's killer and is also dealing with Lila being worked to love him! The DRAMA! This was very fast paced :)

I really have come to like Cassel. He's one of those weird ones, but something about his weirdness makes me like him. I don't love him nor am I swooning over him, but I really do like him as a character. He's really smart, but his con skills are off the freaking charts! I mean, I runs in his family though so you can't blame him for it. And once again, I still don't know how I feel about Lila. I felt bad for her for being worked, but I don't dislike and I also don't like her either. I feel as though I still don't know her character as well as the others.

There was a lot of drama in this book, between Lila and Cassel and also Cassel's friends. I found it very entertaining and made the book that much better. I really like how fast paced the story was as well! It made me really get into the story and stay into it. I'm really can't wait to see what happens in book 3 :) Because the endings are always exciting!

  1. I really enjoy a male POV and narrator if it's done well, and it sounds like this was strong! I've yet to read anything by Holly Black, but it might just be time to try! Great review :)

  2. I still haven't got used to audiobooks. I'm even afraid to try but I know once I find the right one I'll neglect my kindle. Anyhow I'm so glad you enjoyed this one. I have heard great things about this series and I cannot wait to read them. Great review :)

    1. Don't be intimidated :) You just have to try and keep your focus on the narrator (the hardest part for me lol)! If you can do that, then you should make getting into the story a little bit easier.

  4. I'm glad you found the audiobook to be great this time around. I think when it comes to audiobooks, a lot depends on the narrator and I'm glad it didn't ruin things for you:) I kinda skimmed parts of your review since I've yet to start this series, but I will. Someday :) Happy you enjoyed it, sweetie!

  7. The audio is narrated by Jesse Eisenberg and pretty much everything he does works for me, so that applied to this audiobook too. :) You're right that this was fast paced and extremely exciting. While the first book remains my favorite, this one was a close second. Book 3 was somewhat of a disappointment, though, but what can you do?
    Lovely review.
