The Fall of Five by Pittacus Lore

The Fall of Five

Edition |Ebook|
Add to Goodreads
The Garde are finally reunited, but do they have what it takes to win the war against the Mogadorians?
John Smith—Number Four—thought that things would change once the Garde found each other. They would stop running. They would fight the Mogadorians. And they would win.
But he was wrong. After facing off with the Mogadorian ruler and almost being annihilated, the Garde know they are drastically unprepared and hopelessly outgunned. Now they’re hiding out in Nine’s Chicago penthouse, trying to figure out their next move.
The six of them are powerful, but they’re not strong enough yet to take on an entire army—even with the return of an old ally. To defeat their enemy, the Garde must master their Legacies and learn to work together as a team. More importantly, they’ll have to discover the truth about the Elders and their plan for the Loric survivors.
And when the Garde receive a sign from Number Five—a crop circle in the shape of a Loric symbol—they know they are so close to being reunited. But could it be a trap? Time is running out, and the only thing they know for certain is that they have to get to Five before it’s too late.
The Garde may have lost battles, but they will not lose this war.
Lorien will rise again
I have really been enjoying this series and am now anxiously awaiting the next book. The Fall of Five was a fun and action packed book with many twists and turns. I loved being back into this Lorien/Alien world. The characters are always fun and entertaining and there was some good suspenseful moments and also some shocking twists! If you are a fan of the series, I would definitely tell you to get your hands on this book :)

The entire BZRK cell--including Noah and Sadie--has been left in pieces after the last round of battle with the Armstrong Twins, conjoined brother who plot to rob mankind of its free will. Vincent's mind is shattered, and his memories hold dangerous secrets--secrets that Lear, BZRK's mysterious leader, will stop at nothing to protect.
Meanwhile, Bug Man has taken control of the President's brain, but playing with sanity is a dangerous game. The consequences can spiral way out of control, and the Armstrong Twins are not people Bug Man can afford to disappoint.
The nano is as terrifying, exhilarating, and unpredictable as ever. But the wall of secrets that surrounds it is cracking. What will it reveal? And once the dust has settled, who will be sane enough to find out?
I was shocking surprise that I enjoyed BZRK Reloaded as much as I did. It was definitely a step up from the sequel in every aspect. Book one turned out to be a disappointment for me, but consider how much I love Michael Grant as an author, I had to give the sequel a chance and I'm glad I did. I found this to be extremely fast paced and action packed. I finished reading it in a day and could not put the book down. I felt like the book didn't drag on and now I am very excited for the released of the final book!

For the past five years, Hayley Kincaid and her father, Andy, have been on the road, never staying long in one place as he struggles to escape the demons that have tortured him since his return from Iraq. Now they are back in the town where he grew up so Hayley can attend school. Perhaps, for the first time, Hayley can have a normal life, put aside her own painful memories, even have a relationship with Finn, the hot guy who obviously likes her but is hiding secrets of his own.
Will being back home help Andy’s PTSD, or will his terrible memories drag him to the edge of hell, and drugs push him over? The Impossible Knife of Memory is Laurie Halse Anderson at her finest: compelling, surprising, and impossible to put down.

Why I'm Wishing...
I've read Speak by the author and thought it was good and I've been curious to try out more of her work. So this one caught my eye.

Affliction by Laurell K. Hamilton

Affliction
(Anita Blake, #22)
by Laurell K. Hamilton
Released |July 2nd 2013 by Berkley Hardcover|
Edition |Ebook|
Add to Goodreads
Some zombies are raised. Others must be put down. Just ask Anita Blake.
Before now, she would have considered them merely off-putting, never dangerous. Before now, she had never heard of any of them causing human beings to perish in agony. But that’s all changed.
Micah’s estranged father lies dying, rotting away inside from some strange ailment that has his doctors whispering about “zombie disease.”
Anita makes her living off of zombies—but these aren’t the kind she knows so well. These creatures hunt in daylight, and are as fast and strong as vampires. If they bite you, you become just like them. And round and round it goes…
Where will it stop?
Even Anita Blake doesn’t know.
I got this book and was really curious to see how things would turn out. For quite sometime this series has fallen off and I feel it's just starting to drag out. I honestly thought it was going to end a few books ago, but it just kept going. When I first started the series I was really enjoying it, but then we started getting unnecessary books, in my opinion, that didn't really have a plot and had nothing going on and now that we are on book 22, I think I finally just got fed up with it.

This was a DNF for me. It wasn't that I didn't enjoy what I read. I got to chapter 7 and just couldn't continue on. I had and have no desire to pick the book back up once I put it down. This is now book 22 and I've come to the conclusion that I'm tired of the series as a whole. I enjoyed the characters and still love them for this series, but I'm just tired of the series as a whole. After so many books, it's like, when is the series going to end?! I don't know if there will be more books after this one, but I think I'm just going to stop reading this because the books have really been slacking and I don't want to keep reading more books in the series and start continuously being disappointed. If that makes any sense at all! It's been nice getting to know the characters, but I think I'm just over the series now. There's been some bad books, but there's been more good and great books.

Author Interview: J.L. Spelbring + Perfection Giveaway

Debut Authors Bash at yareads.com

I'm glad to be apart of the 2013 Debut Authors Bash :) It's a awesome event hosted by Yareaders America.
So many amazing authors and bloggers are participating. My chosen author is J.L. Spelbring, who was my first choice! I'm excited since I recently reviewed her debut book, Perfection, not to long ago :)

A giveaway of a Signed Copy First Edition of Perfection by JL Spelbring! (US Only!)

My Review
The personification of Aryan purity, Ellyssa's spent her whole life under her creator's strict training and guidance; her purpose is to eradicate inferior beings. She was genetically engineered to be the perfect soldier: strong, intelligent, unemotional, and telepathic.Only Ellyssa isn't perfect.Ellyssa feels emotions--a fact she's spent her life concealing. Until she encounters the epitome of inferiority: a dark-haired boy raised among renegades hiding since the Nazis won the war a century ago. He speaks to her telepathically, pushing thoughts into her mind, despite the impossibility of such a substandard person having psychic abilities. But he does. His unspoken words and visions of a place she's never visited make Ellyssa question her creator. Confused and afraid her secret will be discovered, Ellyssa runs away, embarking on a journey where she discovers there is more to her than perfection.

Author Bio
J.L. Spelbring lives in Texas, where she wanders out in the middle of the night to look at the big and bright stars. Besides knocking imaginary bad guys in the head with a keyboard, she enjoys being swept away between the pages of a book, running amuck inside in her own head, pretending she is into running, and hanging out with her kids, who are way too cool for her.

Author Interview with JL Spelbring
1. Could you start off this interview by telling us, briefly, a little bit about yourself?
Let's see. Besides sitting in front of a computer all day (work and writing), click-clacking away on a keyboard, I enjoy running, Diet Coke, and Chips Ahoy Cookies with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Hence the running.  :)

2. What's the most exciting aspect, for you, about being a debut author?
The most exciting part is seeing what people have to say about PERFECTION.

3. I love the butterfly usage on the cover and on the pages throughout the book. Could you explain its significance to the story?
The butterfly is about emerging, becoming something different. Ellyssa, my main MC emerges, emerges from a very strict, in a way, sheltered life, and through her experiences, becomes something more than who she was raised to be.

All Katy can do is survive.
Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?
Together, they can face anything.
But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?
And will they even be together?
Armentrout...I seriously don't know what I'm going to do with you and your freaking HORRIBLE, CLIFF HANGER ENDINGS!!! But before we even get to all of that, the author has made yet another book within this Lux series. I fall more and more in love with this series with each book that I read. This had all the components :) It was fast paced and action packed. It had some great romance as well as suspense! Of course, I could not put the book down and I was so excited to be back in this world! A must read if you have read the series! Things are getting so good and can't wait for the next book!

A year ago Hurricane Josephine swept through Savannah, Georgia, leaving behind nothing but death and destruction — and taking the life of Dovey's best friend, Carly. Since that night, Dovey has been in a medicated haze, numb to everything around her.
But recently she's started to believe she's seeing things that can't be real ... including Carly at their favorite cafe. Determined to learn the truth, Dovey stops taking her pills. And the world that opens up to her is unlike anything she could have imagined.
As Dovey slips deeper into the shadowy corners of Savannah — where the dark and horrifying secrets lurk — she learns that the storm that destroyed her city and stole her friend was much more than a force of nature. And now the sinister beings truly responsible are out to finish what they started.
Dovey's running out of time and torn between two paths. Will she trust her childhood friend Baker, who can't see the threatening darkness but promises to never give up on Dovey and Carly? Or will she plot with the sexy stranger, Isaac, who offers all the answers — for a price? Soon Dovey realizes that the danger closing in has little to do with Carly ... and everything to do with Dovey herself.

The second installment in the all-new series from the masterful, #1 NEW YORK TIMES bestselling author Maggie Stiefvater!
Now that the ley lines around Cabeswater have been woken, nothing for Ronan, Gansey, Blue, and Adam will be the same. Ronan, for one, is falling more and more deeply into his dreams, and his dreams are intruding more and more into waking life. Meanwhile, some very sinister people are looking for some of the same pieces of the Cabeswater puzzle that Gansey is after...
I would definitely have to say that I enjoyed the Dream Thieves more than I enjoyed the Raven Boys. I find this series very intriguing and have yet to read anything like it. This book was a smooth read and it didn't leave me confused as I was in book one. In this book we continue on with the main characters of the book and I found that I like most of them. Most. (I had to reiterate that!) The more I continue with the book, the more I wanted to know what would happen next. This book kept me engaged in the story, it was suspenseful and it had action :) I can't wait for book three to see what happens next!

White Cat by Holly Black

White Cat
(Curse Workers, #1)

Edition |Audio|

Cassel comes from a family of Curse Workers - people who have the power to change your emotions, your memories, your luck, by the slightest touch of their hands. And since curse work is illegal, they're all criminals. Many become mobsters and con artists. But not Cassel. He hasn't got magic, so he's an outsider, the straight kid in a crooked family. You just have to ignore one small detail - he killed his best friend, Lila, three years ago.
Cassel has carefully built up a facade of normalcy, blending into the crowd. But his facade starts to crumble when he finds himself sleepwalking, propelled into the night by terrifying dreams about a white cat that wants to tell him something. He's noticing other disturbing things too, including the strange behavior of his two brothers. They are keeping secrets from him. As Cassel begins to suspect he's part of a huge con game, he must unravel his past and his memories. To find out the truth, Cassel will have to out-con the conmen.
I don't really know how to describe my thoughts on White Cat. This is the first book that I've read by the author and I listened to the audio. The audio was interesting since I haven't listened to too many that was read by a male. The book itself was okay. I enjoyed it, but it took me awhile to get into the actual story of the book. I really liked the idea of the curse workers. It was like a new take on witches, but all the magic was done with the touch of a finger. Overall, I enjoyed the book and will definitely pick up the second from the library soon :)

I’ve battled the Reapers of Chaos before–and survived. But this time I have a Bad, Bad Feeling it’s going to be a fight to the death … most likely mine.
Yeah, I’ve got my psychometry magic, my talking sword, Vic–and even the most dangerous Spartan on campus at my side, in Logan freaking Quinn, but I’m no match for Loki, the evil Norse god of chaos. I may be Nike’s Champion, but at heart, I’m still just Gwen Frost, that weird Gypsy girl everyone at school loves to gossip about.
Then someone I love is put in more danger than ever before, and something inside me snaps. This time, Loki and his Reapers are going down for good … or I am.

Why I'm Wishing....

Before this all happened, the closest I'd ever come to getting physical with a guy was playing the board game Operation. Okay, so maybe that sounds pathetic, but it's not like there were any guys at my high school who I cared to share more than three words with, let alone my body.
Then I met Wes, a track star senior from across town. Maybe it was his soulful blue eyes, or maybe my hormones just started raging. Either way, I was hooked. And after a while, he was too. I couldn't believe how intense my feelings became, or the fact that I was seeing—and touching—parts of the body I'd only read about in my Gray's Anatomy textbook. You could say Wes and I experienced a lot of firsts together that spring. It was scary. It was fun. It was love.
And then came the fall.
Anatomy of a Boyfriend was a very fast paced read for me. It was a light and cute read that I overall enjoyed. I hadn't really heard much of this book going into it, so I really didn't know what to expect. Character wise, I thought they were pretty interesting. I like how the characters were so innocent and inexperienced. But a lot of the times I did feel as though the characters were immature. I didn't mind it in a sense, but sometimes I found it annoying. And this book talked about sex A LOT! I mean, I teenager can be hormonal, but I don't recall being that hormonal in high school.

But the thing that I liked most about the story was that it was overall believable. Dom reacted and acted to things how I believe a real teenager would react. I could believe the emotions and the scenes that played out. I did have some problems with the story and the childishness of some of the characters, but overall I really enjoyed the story. But seriously, I do agree with people when they say they would have enjoyed the story more if they were younger. Being the age that I am, I felt if I was still in high school I would definitely have enjoyed this a lot more. But I am excited to check out the sequel to see what Dom has in store next :) It was a fun and cute story!

After an explosion leaves detective Grant Caldwell scarred he quits his job and tries to hide from his well-meaning family while he heals. When Belle Manikas, a beautiful new neighbor, moves in next door with problems of her own he finds himself drawn to her even while he tells himself she’s nothing but trouble. Even though he knows he’d never have a chance with a woman like her—not with his disfigurement—he can’t stay away.
Thanks to severe health problems as a child Belle grew up sheltered and smothered by her loving, if overbearing, family. Now that she’s finally out on her own she plans to wring everything she can out of life. When she sets her sights on her brooding neighbor nothing can stop her from getting him into bed—until a madman fixates on her.
With Grant now working for Red Stone Security, he sees it as his duty to protect her at all costs. Unfortunately a violent criminal is stalking Belle and will stop at nothing until he’s destroyed her
I remember reading No One to Trust about a year or so ago and really enjoyed it and I bought this one quite awhile ago but never got around to reading it. I'm glad I decided to pick it up because I was in the mood for a book just like this. Danger Next Door was very exciting! It was suspenseful, but had all the romance that I needed. It was also fast paced and also action packed which is hard to find in a romance. Also both the characters Grant and Belle were very interesting to get to know. Grant is recovering from an explosion from when he worked for the police department/swat so he had some insecurities about the scars he has gotten from the accident. I thought that made Grant a very realistic character. And Belle was awesome because she didn't judge him from the scars that were so very visible and I like that about her as well. Overall, I thought the book was very enjoyable and I flew through it :) I'm curious about the others in this series!

Seventeen is a life changing age for Emma Wise.
As her family's sole survivor in a car crash, she is left with a broken arm and a few scrapes and bruises. But these are only outward marks; inside, her heart is broken and the pieces scattered.
Whisked away to Alaska, to an aunt she’s never met, Emma starts over. Secrets unveil themselves and now…she doesn't even know who or what she is.
A centuries old prophecy places Emma in the heart of danger. Creatures of horrifying and evil proportions are after her, and it will take Emma, her aunt, and six, gorgeously captivating Guardians to keep her safe. But, if she can survive until her eighteenth birthday... things will change.
I've actually been really curious about this book for awhile now and when I saw it on Netgalley I had to request it. Going into this book, we meet a girl named Emma who recently was the only survivor of an accident that killed both her Mother and Father. She wakes up in the hospital and finds out she has this long lost aunt and is to be shipped the next day to Alaska to live with this aunt she didn't even know she had. Right away I was curious of all the things that were to come. So many secrets went on in this book that kept me intrigued in the story.

Obsession by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Obsession
by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Released |May 31st 2013 by Entangled Publishing, LLC (Covet)|
Edition |Ebook|

This is a stand alone novel that is an adult spin-off
of the Lux Series You do not need to read a Lux book to read Obsession and vice versa.
He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.
Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.
Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.
Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?
Having read the Lux series (and loving it!), reading Obsession really gave me a whole new insight on the Arum. Like, I never thought I would like an Arum and Hunter was awesome. JLA really know how to create a bad boy character, even though Hunter is far from a boy. I must say that I really enjoyed the story. It was fast paced and action packed. JLA's writing is always amazing. I really enjoyed learning about the characters and looking at things from another view point. And we also got a couple of glimpses of some things to come in Origin which was really exciting! If you've read the Lux series, I definitely suggest you check this out. Even if you haven't read the Lux series, you could still read this book and not be confused considering it's a stand alone.
