MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.
When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….
As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands…

I've been wanting to start Darkfever for the longest time, but it was kind of a disappointment for me. There wasn't anything completely horrible about the book, but it was kind of boring. The world of the fey was interesting and different than most the other fae books that I've read. It was darker, which I liked, but the characters weren't all that interesting.

The main character, Mac, has the ability to see the fae and she's on a mission to find her sister's murder in a country she knows nothing about. Throughout the journey Mac starts stumbling across many secrets about herself and a world she knows nothing about. It was interesting learning about the different fae. Then she meets a guy named Jericho, who was actually an okay character. He was really mysterious, but we don't learn too much about him or what he is. I would definitely like to know more about him.

There wasn't much romance and there was action, but not much of that either. I was hoping things would be better, but I will probably try out the sequel to see if I want to continue on with the rest of the series.

  1. Aww, sorry this was a let down, maybe suffering from middle book syndrome?

    1. I've actually read the second book and I'm into the third, both of which are better than the first! I'm glad I continued on :)

  3. I agree! Where I LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE this series, the first book felt more like an introduction rather than a actually novel. And the romance part really sucks...but it gets better! lol ;p I eventually fell in love with both Mac and Barrons is just sexy as heck! I LOVE HIM! :D

Sorry, this one didn't hold up, but I know you are really liking the next ones! :D Wait until you get to the last one.... FABULOUS review, Janina!
