I’m pushing aside
the memory of my nightmare,
pushing aside thoughts of Alex,
pushing aside thoughts of Hana
and my old school,
push,
push,
push,
like Raven taught me to do.
The old life is dead.
But the old Lena is dead too.
I buried her.
I left her beyond a fence,
behind a wall of smoke and flame.
I've kind of been on the fence about what to rate this. I enjoyed it, but it took me awhile to fully get into the story. I've been really wanting to read it and have had the paperback on my shelf for awhile, but new I wouldn't be able to read it anytime soon, so I decided to get the audio from my library. I really like the world that Lauren Oliver has created for us with the whole idea of love being a disease. It makes things so intriguing, but I did have quite a few problems with the book that kept me from enjoying them.

First things first, I really like the character development of Lena. I can definitely see the growth in her character with this book. I didn't really like her all that much in book one, so to be able to enjoy her character was a huge plus. She became a strong and a brave person and I loved seeing the fight in her. I thought the pacing in this book was pretty good as well. I made it through the audio pretty fast for it to have been 9 discs. I thought the narrator's voice was easy to listen too and I thought she did a fantastic job with the voices. An easy to listen to narrator makes it really easy to focus on the story and not let your mind wonder to other things.

I think I had a problem the most with the love triangle that got threw into the mix. I really dislike when author's do that and I'm not pinpointing Oliver. I just can't stand love triangles and to have one thrown into the mix in the sequels makes it even worst for me. The fact that I found Julian to be a boring character made me start not liking the book a little bit. I just couldn't get into his character. I tried in the beginning and thought he was interesting, but he didn't really do much of anything. And I also guessed the ending. I already new where things were going when Raven said something about a fugitive. So it wasn't really suspenseful. But I am really curious to read book 3 just to see how everything turns out :)

  2. I'm actually really surprised to see this. For me Pandemonium was the best book in this series. This is one of rare books where love triangle didn't bother me that much. I was well younger, sigh. Anyhow I hope you'll enjoy Requiem more then :)

    1. I liked Alex, so in this book to find Julian and to have him be boring just took away from the connection to the romance that I had in book one. I didn't dislike him but I didn't like him either. And book 3, equals about the same.

  3. I'm happy you liked it more than I did. Lena annoyed me and I hated the love-triangle.. But I must agree, she was definitely more likable here and I did enjoy seeing her develop a bit. Be prepared for book 3, I hated it.. :(

    Great review!

  4. Ehhhh I'm sorry you didn't like this more. I've just ordered Delirium since everyone seems to always be going on about it and I feel like I haven't been invited to the party haha. Hoping the first book was a lot better? Or am I going to be disappointed?

  5. I haven't read any of these. That's great the MC developed more in this one; always a good thing! I'm a bit sick of hearing about love triangles too. It's just not realistic for me, regardless of genre.

  8. I liked the first two but really didn't like the last book. It kind of ruined the series for me. Great review though =)
