I am here with an author interview with What Kills Me by Wynne Channing and your chance to win an ecopy of her book :) Giveaway details will be below!
An ancient prophecy warns of a girl destined to cause the extinction of the vampire race.
So when 17-year-old Axelia falls into a sacred well filled with blood and emerges a vampire, the immortal empire believes she is this legendary destroyer. Hunted by soldiers and mercenaries, Axelia and her reluctant ally, the vampire bladesmith Lucas, must battle to survive.
How will she convince the empire that she is just an innocent teenager-turned bloodsucker and not a creature of destruction? And if she cannot, can a vampire who is afraid of bugs summon the courage to fight a nation of immortals?

Interview
1. Where are you from and can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Sure! I’m a feature writer at a national newspaper based in Toronto. What Kills Me is my debut novel and I’m super excited to share it with the world. I also like pajamas and gherkins (not necessarily together).
2. Since this book is about vampires, if you could be a paranormal being, would vampire be your first choice? If not, what paranormal being would you be and why?
I’ll pass on being a vampire. Who want to drink blood when there is cream soda and ice tea? And if you don’t have a reflection, how would you ever brush your hair or check for people bits in your teeth? How embarrassing. I’d rather be one of those chubby cherubs in Disney’s Fantasia. I’d get to float around buck naked and help people fall in love.
3. Do you take any part in the creation of the book cover for What Kills Me?
I did! My designer, Liliana, and I went back and forth for weeks to create the perfect image. (Love the butterflies exploding from her chest. I use butterflies in the book as a symbol of transformation.)
4. I love in the blurb how it says that Axelia fell into a well and emerged a vampire. How did you come up with such a different and unique take on becoming a vampire?
Axelia, or Zee, is special. I wanted her to be “born” in a very different way — something that would terrify the vampire nation. In the book, no vampire has ever been created without being bitten. Zee is the only one and it causes her to be feared. So seek and destroy is basically the vampire empire’s reaction.
5. Say for instance that something bad happened to your all-time favorite book. Would you rather the book be water damaged, run over by a car, colored in by a child, or pages missing of your favorite scene in the book? Explain and you must pick one :)
Run over by a car. It would still be readable. And maybe the tires would flatten out the creases I’ve made from years of re-reading.
6. Which do you prefer, Stand Alones or Series?
I mostly read stand-alone novels. But when a character is amazing, I often find myself wondering what they’re up to — as if they are a long-lost friend. That’s when a series kicks butt.
7. Do you have any advice for those who would like to be authors someday?
What Kills Me is about bravery. So my advice is: Be brave. Take the risks in life. Even if you fail, try again. Big things often require more courage than you have. So write the book you want to write. Push yourself to finish it. And be brave enough to share it with the world in any way you can. You can do it. (If in doubt, message me for encouragement!)

About Wynne: Wynne Channing is an award-winning national newspaper reporter and young adult novelist. Wynne loves telling stories and as a journalist, she has interviewed everyone from Daniel Radcliffe and Hugh Jackman to the president of the Maldives and Duchess Sarah Ferguson. The closest she has come to interviewing a vampire is sitting down with True Blood‘s Alexander Skarsgard (he didn’t bite). She briefly considered calling her debut novel “Well” so then everyone would say: “Well written by Wynne Channing.”
