On the evening of Sofia Claremont's seventeenth birthday, she is sucked into a nightmare from which she cannot wake.
A quiet evening walk along a beach brings her face to face with a dangerous pale creature that craves much more than her blood.
She is kidnapped to an island where the sun is eternally forbidden to shine.
An island uncharted by any map and ruled by the most powerful vampire coven on the planet. She wakes here as a slave, a captive in chains.
Sofia's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn when she is the one selected out of hundreds of girls to join the harem of Derek Novak, the dark royal Prince.
Despite his addiction to power and obsessive thirst for her blood, Sofia soon realizes that the safest place on the island is within his quarters, and she must do all within her power to win him over if she is to survive even one more night.
Will she succeed? ...or is she destined to the same fate that all other girls have met at the hands of the Novaks?

A Shade of Vampire was a short read involving vampires. I loved the idea where the vampires were secluded on their own island,Blood Shade, away from the rest of the world. The book starts off with the protagonist, Sofia, being kidnapped and taken to Blood Shade to be the slave of the Prince, Derek Novak. I thought that was a pretty awesome and excited start to the book, not to Sofia of course, but to me! It really got me excited what other things would happen within the book.

Let's talk the characters...Sofia was a pretty interesting person. She wasn't really a pushover and had a strong mindset and tended to know when to speak and not to speak. But sometimes I wish she could have been a little more outspoken. I really liked Derek and thought he was an awesome character. He had his faults, but I thought he was sweet :) The romance between Sofia and Derek was okay. You could see the interest on Derek's part very early on, but Sofia was a bit stand offish, which I like. It led to the book not being in my insta-love category. I thought the 'romance' could have been better, but overall I thought it was okay.

Some pretty interesting things happened throughout the book and there was some great action scenes! And the ending really has me curious to see what will happen in the next installment. I was really hoping the book wasn't going to end how I thought it was going to end and it didn't, which was good. As I was reading I thought the ending would be predictable, but it wasn't! Like I said before, I anxious to see what will happen in book 2 :)

I received A Shade of Vampire for review from the author. All thoughts are my honest opinion!

  1. Overall Sofia sounds like a well rounded and good character to read about, even if she could have spoken up for herself a bit more.

  4. I haven't read a great or interesting vampire book in a long time and I'll admit this one doesn't really catch my interest but I do like the sound of the characters. Sofia and Derek both sound like solid characters and if I decide to pick this book up it would be because of them! :D And you have very curious about the ending too! lol ;p Great review, Janina! Glad you liked this!
