He is a Legend.
She is a Prodigy.
Who will be Champion?
June and Day have sacrificed so much for the people of the Republic—and each other—and now their country is on the brink of a new existence. June is back in the good graces of the Republic, working within the government’s elite circles as Princeps-Elect, while Day has been assigned a high-level military position.
But neither could have predicted the circumstances that will reunite them: just when a peace treaty is imminent, a plague outbreak causes panic in the Colonies, and war threatens the Republic’s border cities. This new strain of plague is deadlier than ever, and June is the only one who knows the key to her country’s defense. But saving the lives of thousands will mean asking the one she loves to give up everything.
With heart-pounding action and suspense, Marie Lu’s bestselling trilogy draws to a stunning conclusion
Once again, I have ended a trilogy and it is always sad to see them end. Champion was a great ending to this Legend trilogy and it was sort of bittersweet. I loved being back in the world that the author has created and I also love being reunited with the characters one last time to see how things would wrap up. In Champion, there is a deadly virus spreading through the colonies and they're blaming it on the Republic and if the Republic doesn't come up with a cure and fast then they'll have to face yet another war.

Being back in the dual pov of June and Day was pretty interesting. I love both of the characters, but I found that I like being in Day's head more then June. I think I would have enjoyed her pov more if she wasn't constantly following Anden around and doing nothing all the same. I like June when she's fighting. Her being princeps-elect kind took away that bad ass demeanor of hers, in my opinion, but I still liked her. She had some final development in this book that I really liked seeing. Being in Day's head was hard for me. Seeing him struggle with that illness of his was hard to see because he's lost almost everything and now on top of that he's dying himself. But on a good note, I loved the interaction we saw with Day and his brother. It was really sweet and I was hoping for the best for them both. Both June and Day can be so frustrating at times. They want to say so many things, but always find away to avoid saying it and it drives me insane, but still makes the book so good at the same time.

I wish there was more romance in this book though. I had the same problem with the romance in Prodigy as well. I needed more. You saw it here and there, but it never lasted. And that hint of a love triangle in this trilogy was unnecessary to me. I didn't really see the point in it, to be honest. Also, I did feel like the book dragged out in some places, but it sort of got over it. The ending had me worried there for a second, but that epilogue made up for it. I'm glad the author included it :) Overall, the book was pretty good and it left me feeling satisfied that there was a chance. This was a great trilogy to read and I would definitely recommend it!

  1. Bittersweet is a great word to describe the ending, I love how it was a satisfying, well written one that brought the feels. I did feel it was draggy as well and yes, Day was a better MC then June I think, because she's so cold and he feels a lot more livelier if that makes sense. Lovely review Janina!

  2. Yes! I gave this book 5 stars but would have been exploding with stars if June didn't follow Anden around, haha! I cried so hard from the ending to the epilogue. My heart couldn't take it. ><

  3. That love triangle has been bothering me forever. I kind of ended up spoiling this one for myself because I just had to know how it ended and I am not so sure how I feel. I will read this one eventually if only to say my final goodbyes to these characters (well Day mostly, I'll always love him).

    Lovely review, Janina! :)

    1. The triangle was so unnecessary. I just honestly didn't see the point. It barely even brought drama like most do.

  5. I agree, being in Day's head was more... emotionally-wretching, if that makes sense. You can really feel his desperateness to save the people he love despite harboring a fatal illness. I liked June, too, but like you, I wished she didn't follow Anden so much like a lost puppy, even going to the point that her heart skips a beat sometimes! Ugh. That's so lame. In any case, I liked the book, too, and am happy you loved it all the same. Can't wait for Marie Lu's next series!
