Blog Tour: The Shapeshifter's Secret - Review/Interview/Giveaway

Released |June 12th 2012 by Cedar Fort|
She tried telling herself to stop, but it was useless. Something had fully claimed her mind and body. A sound began to erupt from inside her chest, a deep sort of growl that seized her entire being. She felt as if there was a grizzly bear inside her, trying to escape. And then a deafening roar echoed from her mouth, only inches away from Lancer’s face. It took everything inside of her not to attack him.
In Julia’s life, timing is everything. Like the time her paranoid father put bars on her window so she wouldn’t sneak out at night—even though she’s never given him a reason not to trust her. Or the time this weird new kid showed up at her school and pretty much every girl in sight instantly and inexplicably fell in love with him. What was up with that?
But as time moves on, things in Julia’s life go from strange to seriously impossible. Now it’s all she can do to keep herself and the life she’s always known from falling apart.
This fast-paced action-adventure story is packed with humor, romance, and enough twists and turns to keep you guessing to the very last page. Get lost in a world of hidden royalty, shifting alliances, and dangerous vendettas, but don’t ever forget: nothing is what it seems.

My Review
I really enjoyed this book! Thanks to Netgalley for the e-arc :) The book caught my attention from the cover and the title. Me being a shifter lover played the deciding factor! And this book is about werecat shifters! I read read too many of those.

I really liked the plot of this story. It was so different, a connecting world that was so intriguing and completely different than the normal. And I like reading books that has that boarding school feel too it, I don't why I just do :)

The characters were awesome. I really like Julia, but sometimes her attitude was a bit annoying, but that the fact that she can shift into a white tiger is awesome! Sierra and Gabe, I absolutely loved those too! I hope things develope between them :) Loved Caleb, but he is such a mystery and I want to know what the heck he wanted to tell Julia at the end of the book!?! Now I have my wild guesses that I really really really hope he says, but I doubt it...

I really like the fact that Alexis is her mother. It makes the story all the more interesting. But the things that made me give this book a 4 star was the romance. It wasn't there for me. It was too quick and I didn't really feel the connection between Julia and Terrance. Now Terrence is a nice guy, but I just wasn't feeling it. Also, there wasn't really anything epic in the book that just wowed my mind. But don't get me wrong when I say this, I couldn't put the book down. I had my eyes glued to my kindle to where I was oblivious to everything else! And the ending was amazing :) I can't wait to check out the next installment.

Overall, awesome book! I recommend this book for shifters and for those who enjoy all the things I mentioned above :)

Author Interview

1. Where do you currently reside and can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I currently live near the mountains in Utah with my husband and two rambunctious pugs. I love reading, writing, dancing, and being around my spontaneous family.
2. Since The Shapeshifter's Secret is about, of course shapeshifters, are shapeshifters your favorite supernatural being? If not, what is and why?
Well it probably isn’t surprising to hear that shapeshifters are my favorite supernatural being. I think they’re really versatile and powerful which makes them fun to read and write about. I also like other supernatural beings such as sirens, mermaids, and fairies.
3. Did you take any part in the creation of the book cover?
I had a physical description of Julia, but Cedar Fort did an amazing job creating the cover and making it more beautiful than I ever could have imagined. I remember first seeing it and just being blown away.
4. Was there someone or thing that inspired you to write this book?
I remember telling my father when I was in middle school that I wanted to be like J.K. Rowling and write stories. He really encouraged me and said that if I wanted to become a writer, I should do it. Not too much later he passed away, but I never forgot his words of support, and it really inspired me to finish The Shapeshifter’s Secret.
5. Do you have any bad habits you do when you are reading?
Yes, I tend to copy what the characters do in the current novel I’m reading. If a character yawns, blinks, or bites their nails, I find myself doing it too!
6. Who are some of your favorite authors?
J.K. Rowling (of course), Lemony Snicket, Edgar Allen Poe, Suzanne Collins, and Robert Frost.
7.  Which do you prefer: Stand Alone or Series when it comes to books?
Series are more fun to get into, and I think a lot of readers get a thrill in the anticipation of waiting to see what comes next. Besides, every time I’ve dressed up in costume for a book release, it was in a series (Yes, I’m that kind of reader).
8. Do you have any advice for writers out there who want to become authors?
I would say to start now. Start writing your stories. Start thinking about your writing goals. Start sharing your words.
9. Where can people buy your books?
The Shapeshifter’s Secret will be available at Barnes and Noble, Costco, Desert Book, and Seagull Book.
