Since her release from Liberty Children's Facility, Anya Balanchine is determined to follow the straight and narrow. Unfortunately, her criminal record is making it hard for her to do that. No high school wants her with a gun possession charge on her rap sheet. Plus, all the people in her life have moved on: Natty has skipped two grades at Holy Trinity, Scarlet and Gable seem closer than ever, and even Win is in a new relationship. But when old friends return demanding that certain debts be paid, Anya is thrown right back into the criminal world that she had been determined to escape. It’s a journey that will take her across the ocean and straight into the heart of the birthplace of chocolate where her resolve--and her heart--will be tested as never before.

I thought this was great sequel to All These Things I've Done. I was really happy to see all the positive changes and decisions that Anya was making throughout the story. She really has started developing as a character and becoming more mature. But still Anya continued to go through many struggles and challenges dealing with trust and the law. You root for her to push forward even go she's going through so many difficult things. Being pick on by your ex boyfriend's dad. I mean seriously, how many times was he going to have her sent to Liberty, a juvenile center for young kids, when the girl was doing absolutely NOTHING wrong. And on top of that, having to reevaluate the relationships of the people close to her. Not knowing who to trust can really mess with a person's mind, so I could really relate with Anya on that.

I really congratulate the author on all the twists she threw my way, especially the one with Leo! That really caught me off guard. So many secrets started coming to the light, but then there were always new ones developing within the mix. That really kept me wanting to find out what happened next within the story.

I still like the romance of the story, but Anya and Win tend to always get into a really big fight at the end of the story, which is really annoying. lol Things were all good until the last chapter or so. I guess its suppose to keep you interested in their relationship and what will happen next with them, but it was so frustrating! Things were going so good...But overall, I really enjoyed the sequel and can't wait to see how things turn out for Anya and her new business and to also see how things turn out for Anya and Win.

  1. I'm glad to heard that this was a good sequel. It seem like Anya became more grown up and not a teen girl she used to be. LOL You mean they fight at the end of the book or all the time. It would really be annoying. Great review :)

  3. I read your review for the first book in this series and although I found it different I wasn't interested but I starting to get really curious about this series. I am glad this was a good sequel. I hate getting disappointed by sequels...so that's always a good thing. ;p Anya sounds like a kick ass heroine and I can't wait to hopefully meet her and Win real soon. Hopefully, in the next book their fighting will stop. lol ;p

Glad you enjoyed this! Great review, Janina!
