It's almost a year since Gaby Winters watched her twin brother die. In the sunshine of a new town her body has healed, but her grief is raw and constant. It doesn't help that every night in her dreams she fights and kills hell-beasts. And then Rafa comes to town. Not only does he look exactly like the guy who's been appearing in Gaby's dreams, he tells her things about her brother and her life that cannot be true, things that are dangerous. Who is Rafa? Who are the Rephaim? And who is Gaby? The truth lies in the shadows of her nightmares.
I've never really been that into angel books for some reason so I'm always skeptical going into one. This book was a pleasant surprise and I honestly didn't think I would like it as much as I did. The first few chapters of the book didn't quite catch my attention, but after continuing on I found that I was really enjoying the story. This was a fast paced read for me and I breezed threw the story. I definitely hope to continue on with this series. I received a review copy from Netgalley. All thoughts are my honest opinion.

The characters in this story was enjoyable. Rafa was, by far, my favorite. He's still a mystery to me though and I know there are still many things we do not know about him, but I am definitely curious to more about him. He can be very entertaining and I really enjoyed the way he interacted with Gaby, even though there's more to the story. Now that leads me to Gaby, the protagonist. I'm still a bit on the fence about her. It's not that I don't like her, I just don't think I truly connected to her in this story. I understood her feelings and thoughts, but there wasn't a connection. She was a good character and I liked how she cared for those around her. Not remembering a lot of your past especially when it comes to not knowing whether your twin brother is truly dead has to be terrible! All the people around her knew more about herself and her brother than she did. I wouldn't like that at all so I completely understood her feelings on that. But the still, the connection wasn't there.

There was some very good action packed moments within this book. It made want to continue on in trying to find out what really happened to Gaby and her brother that night. Many things got revealed in this book, but not what I REALLY wanted to know. really want to get my hands on the sequel in hopes of finding out more of the mystery to Gaby's memory. Overall I would say that this was a pretty good read.
