Readers who love vampire romances will be thrilled to devour Team Human by Justine Larbalestier and Sarah Rees Brennan. Team Human celebrates and parodies the Twilight books, as well as other classics in the paranormal romance genre.

Mel is horrified when Francis Duvarney, arrogant, gorgeous, and undead, starts at her high school. Mel’s best friend, Cathy, immediately falls for the vampire. Cathy is determined to be with him forever, even if having him turn her could inadvertently make her a zombie.

And Mel is equally determined to prove to her BFF that Francis is no good, braving the city’s vampire district and kissing a cute boy raised by vampires as she searches evidence in this touching and comic novel
This is a hard review to write because it has been awhile since I've finished the book. Usually I write my reviews right after I finish reading them, so please, bare with me. I have mixed feelings about Team Human. I liked it, but I didn't. It wasn't mind blowing. I've not read a book by either of the authors so I had no idea what to expect. When it says this would be a parody of the twilight books in the synopsis, it wasn't lying. They nailed it! But considering how much I hated the romance in Twilight, I hated it in this pertaining to Cathy and Francis lol It annoyed me and I felt like I was in Twilight all over again with Edward and Bella.

The main character, Mel, really dislikes vampire and when a vampire named Francis shows at there school she gets scared and angry, especially when Francis starts taking an interest in Cathy. I liked Mel for her die hard "I hate Francis" attitude because I didn't care for him either. So me and Mel really connected on that level lol Cathy was smart, but she was just so annoying. There was the insta-love in Francis and Cathy's relationship that I just couldn't get with. But you know, I think that was kind of the point in that aspect since it was a parody. And then we meet Kit, who is apart of Francis's vampire shade. The only human raised in the house. This boggled Mel's mind, but I actually really liked Kit and Mel's relationship.

I also really liked the mystery on finding out what really happened to Anna's (Mel's other friend) dad. It was sort of fun and exciting. But I couldn't connect with the characters until Kit came along in the book. He was the best character of them all that I liked. And I really wasn't liking the romance. I mean, Kit and Mel's was okay, but since the book was focused around Cathy and Francis, there relationship kind of overshadowed theirs in a way. If you liked Twilight, you would probably really enjoy this :)

  2. I've heard a lot about this one being kind of controversial for some reason I can't remember. So many YA books are similar to Twilight so I will be staying away from this one to avoid a repetitive plotline but I'm glad you liked some parts!

  3. I've read Twilight, but it didn't impress me much, so I would never consider reading a parody. I'm not such a big fan of parodies anyway. I'm guessing this book is pretty popular because it has "Twilight" mentioned in the description. :)
