It's a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.
Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.
Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?
Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.
Every thing I got from These Broken Stars was just so unexpected. I ended up really enjoying this book and flew through the story. I found the world that was created to be really interesting because I don't read many sci-fi/outer space type of stories. This book was all about survival, with a little bit of romance thrown into the mix. I was intrigued throughout the entire book and had a really hard time putting it down. And also liked how we got both the perspectives of Lilac and Tarver. I would definitely recommend giving this book a try :)

In the beginning, I thought this would be your typical romance. We had a war hero soldier, Tarver, who was not in the rich or in the high class society and then we had Lilac who is the daughter of one of the most famous and richest. I must admit I did not like Lilac at first. I thought she was a brat even thought she had some interesting characteristics. She was smart and it showed, but she could be a bit whiny, but she had her reason which I came to realize as I continued to read. I really liked Tarver though :) He was very sweet.

Both Lilac and Tarver escape into one of the emergency pods as the spacecraft they are own is thrown out of hyperspace and they go crashing down into some foreign planet. At that moment, they don't know if anyone else survived all they know is they only have each other to rely on until help comes. This is when things getting interesting. The two must survive with limited supplies on this planet they know absolutely nothing about. There are no people that they are aware of and they see tracks of some kind of animal, but don't have any idea of what it is. I absolutely loved the survival element of this book. Even though they're not of the same society and they aren't really getting along, the two have to put all their differences aside in order to make it out alive. I think this is what I loved most about the story.

The romance was good, but it wasn't the best for me. I did really like the two together by the end of the book. This was a fast paced read for me and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the story. Both characters had some pretty good character development as well.

Received a copy for review from Netgalley. All thoughts are my honest opinion!

  1. I thought this was going to be a classical romance as well but it turned out to be an awesome survival romance story! I'm glad I warmed up to Lilac later, I think she was putting on a bit of a mask ata the start. I liked how they grew closer together too. Great review, come check out mine: http://www.happyindulgencebooks.com/2013/12/02/arc-review-these-broken-stars-by-amie-kaufman-meagan-spooner-a-classical-otherworldly-romance
